Our Story

Founded in 1977 by Pat Hickey, Air Design Systems began as a woman-owned business with a clear mission: deliver exceptional craftsmanship, build trusted partnerships, and foster a culture rooted in integrity and innovation.

Overcoming early industry challenges, we built our foundation on perseverance, quality work, and a commitment to people.

From mentoring apprentices to developing long-term leaders, our team-first culture helped shape what is now one of the most experienced and respected sheet metal contractors in the Chicago region.

We specialize in complex, high-performance projects across healthcare, life sciences, mission-critical, industrial, hospitality, and multifamily sectors. Our diverse portfolio includes projects for the University of Chicago, Northwestern Medicine, Advocate Aurora Health, Northwestern University, Argonne National Laboratories, Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory, People’s Gas, Medline, Microsoft, Verizon, Sterling Bay, Hilton and the Obama Presidential Center.

With almost 50,000 sq ft of fabrication space, we deliver duct spooling, multi-trade prefabrication, and LEAN installations—supported by BIM coordination and in-house logistics to ensure quality, access, and cost control.
